Former Olympique de Marseille defender Souleymane Diawara, who spent five years at the French club, is facing serious legal troubles. The Senegalese former international has been jailed in connection with an incident dating back to 2015, when he allegedly orchestrated a punitive expedition against a car dealer who had defrauded him.
According to Foot Mercato, the trial is set to begin this Thursday at the Digne-les-Bains criminal court. Diawara is charged with “complicity in extortion and attempted extortion,” bringing renewed scrutiny to the case that has lingered for years.
The legal proceedings also involve his brother, Adama Diawara, further complicating the situation for the former defender. With the trial underway, the outcome could have significant consequences for the ex-Marseille star, whose career was once celebrated both domestically and internationally.
This case casts a shadow over Diawara’s post-football life, as the legal process now takes center stage, determining accountability and potential consequences for the alleged actions.
