Senegalese defender Souleymane Diawara believes he has identified the cause of Olympique de Marseille’s recent poor performances. In two consecutive matches against Borussia Mönchengladbach (2-2) in the Europa League and Nice (2-2) in Ligue 1, Marseille conceded late goals. Diawara attributes these setbacks to the team’s attacking mindset, particularly the desire to score more goals instead of managing the game.
“Against Mönchengladbach, we wanted to score a third goal. Against Nice, the same. All we had to do was stay put and keep the ball. This taught us a lesson, and these mistakes will not happen again. We were leading, there were a handful of minutes left, the public would have understood that we were closing the game. We always want more, but we should have been satisfied with what we had, the three points for victory,” Diawara stated.
Olympique de Marseille, currently co-leading Ligue 1 with PSG with 23 points each, will face Bordeaux (6th with 21 points) in the 13th round next weekend.
