Souleymane Diawara, the Senegalese defender for Olympique de Marseille (OM), had a challenging season in the previous campaign. At 34 years old and having played only 11 Ligue 1 matches, Diawara faced difficulties due to a serious knee injury, which affected his performance and led him to spend time on the substitutes’ bench.
Despite the challenges, Diawara is determined to stay at OM and work towards regaining his form and a starting position. He expressed his happiness at the club and emphasized his commitment, stating, “I’m really happy here. If OM no longer needs me, I will have to look elsewhere but, in my head, I am 200% Marseille.”
Acknowledging the need for a discussion with the coach during the training camp, Diawara is eager to prove himself and compete for a spot in the starting lineup. Reflecting on the previous season, he mentioned returning too quickly from his injury, experiencing pain, and not performing well. However, he believes he is now ready and motivated to reclaim his place in the team.
