Souleymane Diawara begins new chapter as consultant
At 37, Souleymane Diawara appears to have drawn the curtain on his professional playing career. Without a club since leaving OGC Nice and returning from prison, the former Senegalese international defender is turning toward a new path: that of a sports consultant.
According to *France Football*, Diawara has already made a first move in his new role, assisting in the placement of goalkeeper Thierry Cros at Red Star. The operation was reportedly carried out in collaboration with his lawyer friend, Alexandra Fernandez.
Though no official announcement has been made, all signs suggest that Diawara’s career on the pitch is now over. It marks a turbulent end to a career that included stops at Bordeaux, Marseille, and Nice, as well as several seasons with the Senegalese national team.
Diawara’s post-football career comes after a difficult chapter in his personal life. Last year, he was incarcerated for several months on charges of extortion and attempted extortion, an episode that overshadowed the twilight of his playing days.
Despite that setback, the former defender seems determined to stay connected to the sport he has lived for decades. His first steps as a consultant may well open the door to a second career in football, albeit in a very different role from the one fans grew used to seeing.
