Cameroon’s head coach, Rigobert Song, has emphasized the need to rectify defensive errors before facing Nigeria in the Round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Speaking at the press conference, Song stated, “Nigeria is a strong, robust, and serious team.”
“We will work on correcting our mistakes from the group stage, utilizing every available resource to achieve the desired result,” he added.
Song highlighted that Cameroon is in a rebuilding phase with a new generation, acknowledging the importance of drawing inspiration from the country’s footballing history.
“It’s a good opportunity for the players to perform on a field that holds a significant part of our nation’s history,” he said.
The upcoming match will take place at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium, the first Ivorian president, where Cameroon clinched its first-ever Africa Cup of Nations title in 1984.
Addressing defensive strategies, Song stated, “We will find the right formula to prevent conceding goals and to score more than our opponents.”
Cameroon has conceded a total of 6 goals in the Africa Cup of Nations so far. They suffered a 3-1 defeat against Senegal, conceded a goal in a 1-1 draw against Guinea, and faced a challenging 3-2 victory against Gambia.
The team secured passage to the Round of 16 by finishing second in Group B with 4 points.
The winner of the upcoming match against Nigeria will face the winner of the clash between Angola and Namibia in the quarter-finals.
