Nigeria forward Akor Adams has shared a remarkable story of how his senior compatriot Victor Osimhen inspired him six years ago when he was still an aspiring teenager in Europe.

The 25-year-old Sevilla striker made his Super Eagles debut last Friday against Lesotho, scoring within minutes of coming off the bench, courtesy of an assist from Osimhen.

Days later, the pair started together against Benin, forming a dynamic partnership that produced four goals for Nigeria at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

After the match, Adams reflected on his journey to the national team, recalling a 2019 Instagram exchange with Osimhen that changed his outlook. At the time, Adams was playing for Norwegian side FC Sogndal and struggling to settle after a disappointing FIFA U-20 World Cup campaign.

Seeking guidance, he reached out to Osimhen, who was then starring for Lille in France.

In his message, the young striker asked how Osimhen handled poor performances and training setbacks.

The 2023 CAF Player of the Year responded with encouragement, urging him to keep working hard, stay faithful, and believe that success would come in God’s time.

Grateful for that moment, Adams took to Instagram after Nigeria’s win over Benin to express his appreciation.

“Some life scripts are handwritten by God himself! Thank you @victorosimhen9, I am living a dream!!!” he wrote.

The past fortnight has been unforgettable for Adams. He scored for Sevilla just before the international break, earned his first Nigeria call-up, found the net on his debut, and shared the pitch with the very player who once inspired him from afar.
