Some opponents faced ‘easy ride’ this season – Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso reflects on campaign
Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Mamelodi Sundowns has drawn a sharp contrast between his side’s current campaign and the previous season, suggesting that several opponents have found the ongoing term far less challenging.
Speaking in a post-match reflection, Sundowns tactician Miguel Cardoso described the 2025/26 season as significantly different from the last, insisting that the level of competition his team has faced has, in some instances, been less demanding.
“Last year was a season completely different from this one. This season was a walk in the park for some of our opponents,” Cardoso said.
His comments come amid continued dominance by Sundowns in domestic football, where the club has maintained its status as one of the most consistent performers in the league.
The Portuguese coach, however, appeared to suggest that while his side has remained strong, the competitive intensity from certain rivals has not been at the same level as in previous campaigns.
Cardoso’s remarks are likely to spark debate among supporters and analysts, particularly regarding the overall competitiveness of the league this season and whether Sundowns have been tested as strongly as in the past.
Despite the remarks, Sundowns continue to position themselves as frontrunners in domestic competition, with expectations remaining high as the season progresses.
