Somali Football Federation president Ali Abdi Mohamed meets Infantino over football development plans
Somali Football Federation (SFF) President and CECAFA Vice President Ali Abdi Mohamed has held talks with FIFA President Gianni Infantino as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation and accelerate the growth of football in Somalia.
The high-level meeting focused on key areas aimed at advancing the sport in the Horn of Africa nation, including FIFA development programmes, youth football initiatives, infrastructure improvement and creating more opportunities for players and stakeholders across Somalia.
Discussions between the two football leaders highlighted the importance of continued collaboration between FIFA and the Somali Football Federation in building a stronger football ecosystem through investment, capacity development and sustainable projects.
Youth development was among the major topics discussed, with both parties recognising the need to provide better structures, facilities and competitive opportunities for young talents who represent the future of Somali football.
Infrastructure development also featured prominently, as Somalia continues efforts to improve football facilities and create better environments for grassroots and professional football activities.
Ali Abdi Mohamed’s meeting with Infantino comes as Somali football seeks to expand its presence and strengthen its foundations through partnerships with global football organisations.
As CECAFA Vice President, Ali Abdi has also played a role in regional football development, with his engagement reflecting broader efforts to enhance cooperation and growth within East African football.
The Somali Football Federation has been working to increase participation, improve national teams and develop pathways for emerging talents, while FIFA’s support programmes remain a key component in helping member associations achieve long-term progress.
The meeting with Infantino is expected to further strengthen the relationship between FIFA and Somali football authorities as both sides continue working towards the development and expansion of the game in Somalia.
