Feghouli Hails Algeria’s Qualification After Dominant Victory Over Malawi
Sofiane Feghouli expressed deep pride and emotion after helping Algeria secure a commanding 3-0 victory over Malawi on Wednesday in Blida — a result that made the Fennecs the first nation to qualify for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The Valencia midfielder played a key role in the match, delivering a crucial assist for Algeria’s second goal and orchestrating play throughout the game. The win maintains Algeria’s perfect record in the qualifying campaign, with four wins from four matches.
“We are very happy. In the locker room, there is great satisfaction with what the team has just achieved,” Feghouli told Le Buteur. “We worked hard and today we are finally rewarded. 3-0 is a great victory — there’s nothing more to say. It’s a clear and deserved win.”
The Fennecs were in control from the outset, applying sustained pressure that left Malawi with little room to respond. Yacine Brahimi opened the scoring within the first minute, setting the tone for what turned into a comfortable evening for Christian Gourcuff’s side.
Feghouli was quick to shift attention from his own performance to the collective strength of the squad. “Scoring goals is my job on the pitch and I’m happy to have managed to do it. But today, it was the whole team that worked, not just the individuals, and for that, we must be proud of what we accomplished.”
More than just a step toward Morocco, the victory was deeply symbolic for the team and its supporters. “The most important thing was to dedicate this victory to the Algerians, and we managed to do it,” Feghouli added.
With 12 points from four matches and no goals conceded in their last two outings, Algeria’s qualification campaign has been emphatic. They now sit top of Group B and have sealed their ticket to CAN 2015 with two games to spare.
As the Fennecs look ahead to the remaining fixtures, Feghouli and his teammates remain committed to finishing the campaign in style. “We’ve done what was required so far, but we’ll approach the next games with the same seriousness. We want to keep this momentum going.”
Algeria’s commanding performances continue to underscore their status as one of the continent’s top sides — a tag they’ll carry with confidence into Morocco next year.
