VALENCIA COACH HOPES TO KEEP FEGHOULI AMID FENERBAHÇE INTEREST
As the summer transfer window nears its close, Sofiane Feghouli’s future at Valencia CF remains uncertain. The Algerian international, whose contract expires in June 2016, has yet to agree an extension with the Spanish club, fueling speculation of a possible move — most notably to Fenerbahçe, who have shown strong interest.
Despite the growing rumours, Valencia head coach Nuno Espírito Santo is hopeful of retaining one of his key attacking players. Following Valencia’s Champions League qualification at the expense of AS Monaco, the Portuguese coach expressed both confidence and admiration for Feghouli.
“He played a very good game tonight. I’m calm. It’s common knowledge that he’s going to stay,” Nuno said in a post-match interview. “We’re still talking to his agent, with whom we have a good relationship. The fundamental element in a club is continuity.”
Feghouli played a full 90 minutes against Monaco and was instrumental in helping his team secure their place in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League. While his future remains undecided, Valencia’s management is working behind the scenes to secure an agreement and avoid losing the 25-year-old on a free transfer next summer.
As the deadline approaches, both Feghouli’s camp and the club will need to make a decision — either extend the contract or consider a transfer. For now, Nuno remains optimistic that the winger will continue his journey at the Mestalla.
