OM Eyes Rising Star Sofiane Boufal
Olympique de Marseille is showing serious interest in signing Sofiane Boufal, the talented young midfielder of Moroccan descent currently playing for SCO Angers. The 21-year-old, known for his technical skills and ability to excel in one-on-one situations, has caught the attention of several top clubs, with OM emerging as a strong contender.
Boufal, who is under contract with Angers until June 2016, continues to draw scouts due to his standout performances in Ligue 2. One highlight was his spectacular solo goal against Dijon on November 7, where he slalomed past multiple defenders before finishing with composure — a goal that reportedly further fueled Marseille’s interest.
Speaking to La Marseillaise, Angers sporting director Olivier Pickeu confirmed OM’s interest:
“Yes, it’s an open secret, Sofiane is of interest to many clubs and OM is one of them. Jean-Philippe Durand has also come several times to supervise him. For the moment, there is nothing formal. I have not spoken to President Labrune on the subject.”
Pickeu also mentioned a recent visit to the Vélodrome for the France-Sweden match, but stated that no official talks about Boufal took place due to OM’s then-difficult period.
A move to Ligue 1 giants would mark a major step in Boufal’s career, and Marseille seems poised to act — especially if the player continues to shine in the second half of the season.
