Sofiane Boufal linked with Esperance move after becoming unattached

Moroccan attacking midfielder Sofiane Boufal, currently without a club, has been linked with a move to Esperance in Tunisia’s Ligue 1.

Boufal, 32, left Le Havre AC on 1 July after joining the French club from Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise in January. His next move could take him to Tunisia, with Esperance emerging as the club associated with his name.

The Paris-born player has represented both Morocco and France at international level and is primarily deployed as an attacking midfielder. He has also played in England, Spain, France, Belgium and Qatar during his senior career.

Boufal’s most recent full season included silverware with Union Saint-Gilloise, where he was part of the squad that won the Belgian title in 2024-25 and the Belgian Cup in 2026. He joined the club from Al-Rayyan on a free transfer in September 2024 before moving to Le Havre midway through the following campaign.

His career record includes 116 Ligue 1 appearances, with 28 goals and 24 assists, while he made 70 Premier League appearances during his time with Southampton. He also recorded 35 La Liga appearances during a loan spell at Celta de Vigo.

Boufal’s current listed market value is €1.8m, but he is no longer contracted to a club following his departure from Le Havre. The reported interest from Esperance remains a rumour, with no transfer agreement confirmed.
