Al Ahly close to agreement for Moroccan striker Sofiane Benjdida
Al Ahly are edging closer to signing Moroccan forward Sofiane Benjdida after negotiations with Maghreb de Fès reached an advanced stage, with the Egyptian club aiming to complete the transfer before the summer transfer window closes.
The player’s future could be decided within the next 72 hours as discussions continue between the two clubs over the structure of the proposed deal. While significant progress has been made, the final terms have yet to be agreed.
Officials from Al Ahly and Maghreb de Fès recently held their first official face-to-face discussions after weeks of negotiations that had previously been conducted through intermediaries.
The direct talks are seen as an important step towards reaching an agreement, with both clubs continuing to work through the remaining details.
The main obstacle remains the financial package. Maghreb de Fès have maintained their position by insisting that any deal must meet Benjdida’s release clause, which is valued at approximately $4 million. The Moroccan club is unwilling to lower its demands as negotiations continue.
Al Ahly, meanwhile, are attempting to find common ground by proposing a different payment structure. The Egyptian side is seeking to reduce the initial transfer fee by including performance-related bonuses as part of its offer for the Moroccan international.
Away from the negotiations between the clubs, Hussein Ammouta has also taken an active interest in the proposed move.
The Moroccan coach has spoken directly with Benjdida to outline Al Ahly’s sporting ambitions and explain the role the striker is expected to play should the transfer be completed.
Despite those discussions, the player’s future remains uncertain. Benjdida’s family are still understood to favour a move to a European league, meaning the possibility of joining Al Ahly has not yet been fully settled.
The striker has emerged as one of the most sought-after players during the current transfer window after producing a series of impressive performances that attracted interest from several clubs.
With discussions continuing, the coming days are expected to be decisive. The negotiations could end with an agreement that sends Benjdida to Egypt, or they could result in Al Ahly abandoning their pursuit if the two clubs fail to bridge the gap over the transfer fee.
