Sofiane Bendebka: The Algerian dreams of a return to the national team

Former Algerian international Sofiane Bendebka has expressed his strong desire to return to the national team setup. After spending a significant period away from the Fennecs due to the absence of call-ups, the defensive midfielder is eager to once again wear Algeria’s green jersey.

Currently playing for Al Fateh SC in Saudi Arabia, Bendebka has not hidden his ambition. Speaking about the national team, he made it clear that representing Algeria remains a top priority. “The national team is the wish of all players. I am 27 years old and it is my right to hope for a return to the national team. I hope that my work and the level of my performances will allow me to return to the national team,” he stated.

Bendebka has previously represented Algeria at multiple levels, including the military, Olympic, and senior teams. His experience with the youth and Olympic squads has left a lasting connection with several players who are now established internationals.

Among them is Baghdad Bounedjah, with whom Bendebka shared the spotlight during the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The duo played key roles for Algeria’s Olympic team during that campaign, strengthening their bond on and off the pitch.

Now, Bendebka hopes his consistent performances in Saudi Arabia will catch the attention of national team coach Djamel Belmadi. With competition for places fierce in the reigning African champions’ squad, the midfielder understands that only strong displays at club level will reopen the door.

Determined and motivated, Sofiane Bendebka continues to work toward a potential return, driven by the ambition to once again contribute to the Fennecs’ success on the international stage.
