Eto’o and Drogba’s Stand Against Malaria

Renowned footballers Samuel Eto’o, Didier Drogba, and Steven Pienaar are once again lending their support to campaigns aimed at improving social conditions in Africa. This time, they are teaming up with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Heads of State of the African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA) to combat malaria, coinciding with the 2013 African Cup of Nations.

These football icons will advocate for the prevention and treatment of malaria as the competition kicks off in South Africa. Joining them in this noble cause are notable heads of state such as Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia, Alassane Ouattara of Ivory Coast, Blaise Compaoré of Burkina Faso, Jakaya Kikwete of Tanzania, and Yoweri Museveni of Uganda. Together, they will use various platforms, including television spots, posters, and educational programs, to amplify the message across Africa.

Expressing his commitment, Steven Pienaar, United Against Malaria Champion and former captain of the South African National Football Team, stated, “I feel honored to carry the title of Champion in the fight against malaria. It is unacceptable that malaria kills a child every minute. We can all make small efforts to prevent and cure this disease. United, we can beat malaria.”

Pienaar is not alone in this crucial battle, as players like Eto’o, Drogba, Kolo Touré, Gervinho, Salomon Kalou, and the Ayew brothers have all been actively involved in similar campaigns. Their ongoing contributions underscore a collective effort to eradicate malaria in Africa.
