Human rights organizations, particularly Amnesty International, have accused the sponsors of the Sochi Olympics of supporting Russia’s law against homosexuals. The sponsors, including companies like Coca-Cola, McDonald’s, and Samsung, have been criticized for being discreet about human rights abuses and violations in Russia during the preparation of the Sochi Games. Amnesty International calls on these sponsors to take a more forceful public stand against the rights violations that have occurred in the lead-up to the Olympics. The organization highlights issues such as the exploitation of immigrant workers, harassment of NGOs and journalists, and negative environmental impacts caused by the extensive construction for the Games.
