SOCHAUX: JORDAN AYEW: “I DON’T REGRET MY CHOICE”

Jordan Ayew Shines for Sochaux as Survival Dream Stays Alive

Jordan Ayew’s loan move to Sochaux was questioned by many when it was announced in January. But now, with just weeks left in the Ligue 1 season, the Ghanaian forward is proving that his gamble may pay off — both for himself and for his struggling club.

The 22-year-old, on loan from Olympique de Marseille, was the standout performer in Sochaux’s crucial 2-0 victory over Bastia on Saturday. With a goal and an assist, Ayew inspired a vital win that rekindled hope in the Lionceaux’s fight to avoid relegation.

Reflecting on his performance and the criticism he faced at the time of his move, Ayew told L’Équipe: “I think I played a good game, yes. Since my arrival, people expected me to be more decisive. But I always gave everything, because Sochaux gave me the opportunity to have playing time.”

He admitted that not everyone supported his decision to join the then-struggling team. “There were people who told me I was crazy to go to Sochaux — a poorly ranked team, with few chances to play. But I knew I was making the right choice. And I don’t regret it. We might pull off the miracle of staying up, even though almost everyone had written us off.”

Ayew’s commitment has been evident on the pitch, bringing a much-needed edge to Sochaux’s attack. His performance against Bastia not only boosted morale but also narrowed the gap between Sochaux and safety. The club currently sits just inside the relegation zone, five points behind Guingamp, but the belief in a late escape is growing.

Off the pitch, Sochaux’s management is also doing its part to rally support. In a bid to energize the fanbase for the upcoming clash against Reims, the club has offered to cover travel costs for supporters willing to make the trip to the Stade Auguste-Delaune. It’s a symbolic gesture from a club that refuses to give up.

As Sochaux battles for survival, Jordan Ayew’s faith in his decision and his growing influence on the team might just be the catalyst that keeps them in France’s top flight. For the player and the club, the weeks ahead remain critical — but also full of possibility.
