Smouha and Al Masry remain goalless in Egyptian Premier League opener
Smouha and Al Masry were locked at 0-0 during the opening match of the Egyptian Premier League season, with neither side able to create a clear-cut opportunity in the first half.
Al Masry enjoyed a spell of possession in midfield but struggled to turn that control into a threat in the final third. Their players exchanged a series of short passes without testing Smouha’s goal, while attempts to break through the opposition defence produced little danger.
Smouha also looked for a way through and made several efforts to find the opening goal. Their best chance of the half came when Mohamed Adel struck powerfully from outside the penalty area. The shot was well handled by the Al Masry goalkeeper, who prevented Smouha from taking the lead.
The match passed the 15-minute mark with the score still level, before Al Masry increased their share of possession in the middle of the pitch. The visitors, however, continued to lack the decisive pass needed to trouble the Smouha defence.
Al Masry then worked the ball towards the penalty area, with Khair El-Din Tawal delivering a cross into the box. The Smouha goalkeeper claimed it safely to end the move.
Smouha were subsequently awarded no advantage after Samir Fekri was caught offside. Al Masry’s Salah Mohsen was also flagged offside as both teams found it difficult to maintain attacking momentum.
Play was briefly stopped to allow the players to catch their breath and drink water and juice. The game was then restarted, but the interruption did not immediately lead to an increase in chances.
Smouha suffered a further setback when Abdel Rahman Amer picked up an injury, prompting another stoppage in play. The match resumed after attention was given to the Smouha player.
With half an hour gone, the deadlock remained intact. Smouha continued to search for the first goal, while Al Masry’s neat passing in midfield still failed to produce any real danger in front of goal.
The opening period therefore remained tightly contested, with both sides showing periods of possession but neither able to establish a breakthrough. Mohamed Adel’s long-range effort was the clearest attempt recorded, although the Al Masry goalkeeper dealt with it successfully.
The game continued with the score 0-0 as the first half progressed.
