Orlando Pirates duo tipped for top award

Orlando Pirates are preparing for a busy transfer window after a memorable campaign that delivered a domestic treble, but several familiar faces could be on their way out as the club reshapes its squad for another push at silverware next season.

The Buccaneers captured the MTN8, Carling Knockout and Betway Premiership titles, underlining their dominance on the domestic front.

Although continental success proved elusive in the CAF Champions League, Pirates are expected to strengthen aggressively as they seek to compete for Africa’s biggest club prize.

While speculation continues to surround the futures of key figures Relebohile Mofokeng and Oswin Appollis amid reported overseas interest, a number of current squad members also face uncertain futures with contracts running down and opportunities becoming increasingly limited.

Midfield and defensive exits on the horizon

Among those likely to depart is Kabelo Dlamini. The midfielder has struggled to secure consistent minutes throughout the season and is reportedly nearing the end of his contract. With several Premier Soccer League clubs monitoring his situation, the 28-year-old could leave as a free agent next month.

The future of long-serving defender Bandile Shandu also appears unclear. Competition for places at right-back has intensified, with Kamohelo Sebelebele, Deano van Rooyen and Thabiso Lebitso all ahead of him in the pecking order. Limited playing opportunities, coupled with suggestions from his representatives about a possible move, have fuelled speculation over his exit.

Tapelo Xoki is another player whose time at the club may be drawing to a close. The experienced defender has not featured this season following a serious car accident last year. Although he has made progress in his recovery, there has been little indication that Pirates intend to extend his reported contract beyond June.

Attackers seek fresh opportunities

In attack, Tshegofatso Mabasa could also be approaching the end of his Pirates journey. After returning from a loan spell at Stellenbosch FC, the striker has found it difficult to cement a regular starting role. With his deal reportedly expiring soon, a move elsewhere may offer the chance for more consistent football.

Young forward Boitumelo Radiopane faces a similarly uncertain situation. Regarded as one of the club’s promising prospects, he has yet to establish himself at senior level. With Pirates expected to recruit attacking reinforcements, a loan move or permanent transfer could be considered to accelerate his development.

Defender Thabiso Sesane completes the list of players facing uncertain futures. Once viewed as one of the club’s emerging talents, recurring injury setbacks have restricted his involvement. Apart from appearances in the Carling Knockout Cup, opportunities have been limited, leaving Pirates with a decision to make as they plan for the upcoming campaign.
