Siwelele weigh Alexander Lafitte as Lehlohonolo Seema successor

Siwelele are considering French coach Alexander Lafitte as they search for a permanent replacement for Lehlohonolo Seema.

The club have held informal discussions with several candidates since Seema was sacked, as they look to stabilise the team and decide on the next permanent appointment.

Lafitte is understood to be among the leading contenders, with talks having already taken place as Siwelele assess their options.

The Frenchman was introduced to the Betway Premiership last season after joining Marumo Gallants. However, his time in South Africa was brought to an early end when he was suspended by the club for apparent insubordination.

He has since returned to Siwelele’s shortlist as the club considers making another change in the dugout.

Godfrey Mosoetsa is currently in interim charge after Seema’s departure. The reserve league coach was promoted to oversee the first team, but he made clear after Wednesday night’s 3-0 defeat by Mamelodi Sundowns that he does not want to take the role on a permanent basis.

Siwelele are also looking at domestic candidates and have opened discussions with coaches who possess experience of South African football. Despite that, Lafitte is currently believed to be leading the race to succeed Seema.

The club’s immediate concern is Sunday’s Betway Premiership meeting with Golden Arrows at Free State Stadium.

With the international break approaching, Mosoetsa could remain in charge for that fixture while Siwelele continue their search and reach a final decision on Seema’s successor.

The club will want greater certainty in the near future after collecting only two points from their opening five league matches.
