Siwelele coach Godfrey Mosoetsa confirms Happy Mashiane is training with club
Siwelele FC head coach Godfrey Mosoetsa says former Kaizer Chiefs wing-back Happy Mashiane has impressed during a trial period, although administrative matters must still be resolved before the club can decide whether to sign him.
Mashiane, who remains a free agent, joined Siwelele’s training group during the recent FIFA break. He has now spent several weeks working with the squad, giving the coaching staff an opportunity to assess whether he can strengthen the team.
Mosoetsa said the played well during that time, but stressed that an agreement was not yet guaranteed.
“We have seen him for a few weeks. He started during the FIFA break, so he has been training very well. It’s just a couple of things that need to be sorted out administratively, and then we will take it from there,” Mosoetsa said.
The coach believes Mashiane’s previous experience makes him a valuable option. The player came through at Kaizer Chiefs at a young age and has competed in the Betway Premiership, giving him an understanding of the demands of top-flight football.
“We cannot deny the fact that he is a very good player. He’s got PSL experience, he played for Kaizer Chiefs while he was still young, he has much to offer, but from the technical side,” Mosoetsa explained.
Siwelele are also considering how Mashiane could contribute as they attempt to recover from a difficult run. Mosoetsa indicated that the technical staff see qualities in the player that could benefit the squad, provided the outstanding matters away from the pitch are settled.
“We see something we will definitely need to take this team out of the woods, but it also lies in what happens behind the scenes in terms of management and his agent sorting out any outstanding issues,” he added.
The final decision will therefore depend on more than Mashiane’s performances in training. Siwelele must first resolve the administrative issues involving the club and the player’s agent before a contract can be completed.
For the club, signing an experienced wide player as a free agent could provide an additional option during its push to move away from its current difficult spell. For Mashiane, joining Siwelele would represent an opportunity to revive his career with a top-flight club.
