German-born Ghanaian winger Sirlord Conteh faces uncertainty following Heidenheim’s 2-0 UEFA Conference League defeat to Chelsea FC on Thursday evening.
Coach Frank Schmidt revealed in Friday’s press conference that Conteh sustained an injury during the match.
“He had problems after the game,” Schmidt disclosed, hinting at muscular issues among several players. The coach remains uncertain about Conteh’s availability for Sunday’s Bundesliga fixture against Frankfurt, adding, “We’ll monitor his progress and assess tomorrow who we can rely on.”
Conteh’s absence could be a significant blow for Heidenheim, especially given Chelsea’s ruthless performance. Goals from Christopher Nkunku and Mykhaylo Mudryk sealed the victory for the Blues. Nkunku struck first in the 51st minute after a fluid exchange involving Dewsbury-Hall and Sancho, while Mudryk’s thunderous 86th-minute finish capped off a sharp team move orchestrated by Veiga and Sancho.
Despite Conteh’s valiant effort during the match, his injury adds to Heidenheim’s growing concerns as they prepare for the Bundesliga challenge ahead. Fans will hope for a swift recovery for the 28-year-old.
