Ngapandouetnbu in action for Montpellier during Ligue 2

Simon Ngapandouetnbu is enjoying a strong spell at Montpellier Hérault SC following his departure from Olympique de Marseille, with his performances now putting the French club’s decision to include a buy-back clause under fresh scrutiny.

The goalkeeper left Marseille by mutual agreement in search of regular playing time and joined Montpellier on a free transfer on 7 August 2025.

Despite allowing him to leave, Marseille’s management ensured they maintained a level of control over his future by inserting a buy-back clause into the agreement, giving them the option to re-sign him if he continues to develop.

Ngapandouetnbu has quickly established himself as a key figure at Montpellier. The Cameroonian international has recorded 11 clean sheets in 27 Ligue 2 appearances this season, underlining his growing influence between the posts and his consistency over the campaign.

His performances have not gone unnoticed, with the 22-year-old now valued at around €2 million on Transfermarkt.

He remains under contract with Montpellier until 30 June 2028, giving the club a strong position unless Marseille decide to act on their contractual option.

The situation has created growing interest around his long-term future, particularly as Marseille monitor his progress closely from afar.

His development since leaving the club has been viewed positively, especially given the level of responsibility he has taken on at Montpellier.

Attention is now expected to turn briefly back to the pitch, with Montpellier preparing for their 31st Ligue 2 fixture of the season against Grenoble.

Ngapandouetnbu is expected to play a central role once again as his side continue their push in the league.
