Simon Msuva: Tanzania striker joins Newroz SC from Al-Talaba in Iraq Stars League move

Tanzania forward Simon Msuva has joined Newroz SC from league rivals Al-Talaba SC in a completed Iraq Stars League transfer. The 32-year-old centre-forward switches clubs within Iraq after two seasons in the countrys top flight.

Msuva, who prefers to operate through the middle of the attack, arrives at Newroz with extensive experience across African and Middle Eastern football. He moves on the back of a spell with Al-Talaba, having first come to Iraq when he signed for them from Al-Najma in 2024.

Born in Dar es Salaam and standing 1.75m tall, Msuva has built a reputation as a consistent goalscorer over more than a decade in the professional game. He previously enjoyed productive spells in Moroccos Botola Pro with Difaa El Jadida and Wydad AC, and in Saudi Arabias First Division League with Al-Qadsiah.

His record includes 38 goals and 13 assists in 116 Botola Pro appearances, as well as 21 goals and nine assists from 63 matches in the Iraq Stars League and 11 goals in 43 outings in Saudi Arabias second tier. On the continental stage, he has added eight goals and three assists in 28 CAF Champions League games.

Msuvas most successful period came at Wydad Casablanca, where he won the CAF Champions League in 2021-22 and back-to-back Moroccan league titles in 2020-21 and 2021-22. He later moved to Al-Qadsiah on a free transfer before spells with JS Kabylie and Al-Najma preceded his arrival in Iraq.

The Tanzania international now links up with Newroz SC after completing his move from Al-Talaba SC.
