Simon Banza has cemented his place among the top African goal scorers in Europe this season, joining Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush on the podium.
The Congolese striker, who plays for Trabzonspor in the Turkish Süper Lig, surged into third place in the rankings after a standout performance last weekend.
Banza, currently on loan at Trabzonspor, has been in fine form throughout the season.
His brace on Sunday took his league tally to 16 goals, pushing him past several challengers in the race for the top-scoring African in Europe’s major leagues.
His consistency in front of goal has made him one of the most effective strikers in the Turkish top flight.
However, Banza is not alone in third place. Senegalese forward Chérif Ndiaye, who plays for Red Star Belgrade in the Serbian SuperLiga, also netted twice over the weekend, bringing his season total to 16 goals.
The duo now sits just behind Marmoush and Salah in the African goal-scoring rankings across Europe’s top 25 leagues.
Challengers fall behind
While Banza and Ndiaye climbed the rankings, other contenders have struggled to keep pace.
Youssef En-Nesyri (Fenerbahçe), Ayoub El Kaabi (Olympiakos), and Tolu Arokodare (KRC Genk) all remain on 15 goals after failing to find the net in recent matches.
Their inability to score has allowed Banza and Ndiaye to move ahead, highlighting the fine margins in the race for Africa’s top scorer in Europe.
Salah and Marmoush lead the pack
At the top of the leaderboard, Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush continue to dominate.
Salah, Liverpool’s talisman, once again proved decisive last weekend, scoring a goal and providing an assist in a crucial 2-0 victory over Manchester City.
The Egyptian forward now boasts 25 goals this season, reinforcing his status as the leading African scorer in Europe.
Meanwhile, his compatriot Marmoush, who plays for Eintracht Frankfurt, has been one of the revelations of the campaign.
Despite a goalless outing against Manchester City, he remains in second place with 18 goals.
