Steve Barker targets Singida to end Simba SC’s winless streak
Simba SC head coach Steve Barker is determined to end his team’s winless run as the Reds prepare to face Singida Black Stars in the NBC Premier League on Wednesday at 3:15pm.
Simba SC, based in Msimbazi, have drawn their last two matches 0-0 against Dodoma Jiji and local rivals Young Africans in the Kariakoo derby.
The team currently sits fourth in the league with 24 points from 11 rounds, eight behind leaders Yanga, but with one game in hand.
Barker says the upcoming fixture is crucial for regaining momentum. “I think it’s obviously a very important match for us, we’re coming off two goalless draws in the league, so it’s crucial to get back into our rhythm. We have to win and take the three points,” he said.
The South African coach acknowledged the challenge posed by Singida, a competitive side coming off a strong season last year.
“But we know that Singida is a very good team that came off a great season last year, very competitive and well coached, so we will have to make sure that tomorrow we play at our best level and that we deliver a performance that gives us the opportunity to win this match,” Barker added.
He also addressed the club’s supporters, promising full commitment on the pitch. “To all our supporters, as I always promise, we will give 100% on the pitch, we will prepare as best we can to continue to make them proud. I’m really looking forward to this match – it’s a very important game for us.”
With Simba SC seeking their first league title since the 2020/21 season, Wednesday’s clash against Singida represents a pivotal opportunity to turn their campaign around and close the gap on the league leaders. The team will look to convert their efforts into victory and reignite their push for the top spot.
