Simba SC confirms appointment of coach Steve Barker on two-year deal

Tanzanian giants Simba SC have confirmed the appointment of coach Steve Robert Barker, ending his spell with South African outfit, Stellenbosch FC.

Barker penned a two-year deal with Simba SC, replacing Dimitar Pantev, who was shown the exit door following an unsatisfactory performance.

He achieved significant success during his spell with the South African outfit, including winning the 2023 Carling Knockout Cup and reaching the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Simba FC are the giants in the East African country and seeking a coach who can maintain that standard for the team.

“The club’s board has reached an agreement to appoint Steve Robert Barker as the head coach of our team for a period of two years,” Simba FC said via a statement.

“Barker (57) a South African citizen has joined our squad from Stellenbosch FC in South Africa. Coach Barker holds an A license from the European Football Association (UEFA) as well as an A license from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

“Barker replaces General Manager Dimitar Pantev a Bulgarian citizen whose contract was terminated last month due to unsatisfactory performance of the team.

“In addition to coaching Stellenbosch, he has also managed Black Aces FC, AmaZulu FC and U. Pretoria all in South Africa.

“The 2023/24 season enabled Stellenbosch to reach the semi-finals of the African Confederation Cup. The 2023/2024 season enabled Stellenbosch to win the Carling Knockout Cup”
