Inter Milan president Beppe Marotta has reflected on one of the most remarkable transfers of his career, describing the signing and eventual sale of Paul Pogba as unparalleled in football history.
Speaking to DAZN, Marotta recounted how Juventus managed to acquire Pogba from Manchester United as a rising talent.
“The historic one was Pogba. We acquired him, thanks to the staff I had at Juventus, for free from Manchester United, and we accidentally sold him back to them after 2-3 years for €115m,” he said.
The Inter president emphasized the role of negotiation and strategic planning behind the deal.
“Yes, their management has changed, but for me it’s something unique and unrepeatable. We acquired him thanks to the cunning and diplomacy of Mino Raiola, who was one of the best agents around. He facilitated this acquisition for us, we managed it as a team, and it was seemingly easy,” Marotta explained.
The former Juventus executive also recalled his early dealings with Manchester United, highlighting his broader experience in the transfer market.
“I also remember selling (Massimo) Taibi from Venezia to the Red Devils… I regret the loss of figures like (Sir Alex) Ferguson, who was the English club’s manager at the time and whom I got to know very well,” he said.
The deal is widely remembered not only for its financial impact but also for how Juventus transformed Pogba into one of Europe’s most coveted midfielders.
