Sierra Leone names 26-man squad for U20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt
Sierra Leone head coach Mohamed Lamin Kamara has officially announced the 26-man squad selected to represent the nation at the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, which kicks off this week.
With months of preparation now behind them, the selected players have been chosen for their performance, consistency, and potential to shine on one of the continent’s most prestigious youth football stages.
The group carries the hopes of a nation eager to make its mark in the tournament and advance deep into the competition.
“These young talents have earned their place through hard work, discipline and dedication,” said Kamara. “They are ready to carry the green, white and blue colours high for the final victory.”
The squad announcement marks the final phase of Sierra Leone’s build-up to the tournament, which serves not only as a continental championship but also as a qualifying route for the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup.
Only the top four teams from the competition will book a place in Chile later this year.
Grouped alongside strong opponents, Sierra Leone will need a solid display in the group stage to progress.
With Kamara placing his trust in a balanced side featuring domestic standouts and overseas-based prospects, the team’s ambitions rest on a blend of youth, energy, and a growing hunger to put Sierra Leonean football firmly on the African map.
While the full list of players includes fresh faces and returning names from regional qualifiers, each member of the squad is expected to play a crucial role as Sierra Leone aims to navigate the intensity and competitiveness of the continental showpiece.
The selected 26 players, announced by the Sierra Leone Football Association, will be travelling to Egypt ahead of their opening match.
Expectations are high, but so is the belief within the squad and technical staff.
Sierra Leone will begin their campaign in a challenging group, and fans will be watching closely as the team embarks on its mission to leave a lasting impression.
