Momoh Kamara of Sierra Leone has finished as the top scorer of the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations, outpacing his closest competitors with four goals to his name.
The striker’s performances were a bright spark for his nation, despite Sierra Leone not reaching the final stages of the competition.
The tournament, which concluded on Sunday at Cairo International Stadium, saw South Africa lift their maiden U20 AFCON title after edging Morocco 1-0 in a tightly contested final.
The match-winner, Gomolemo Kekana, wrote his name into the tournament’s history with the solitary goal that secured glory for the Amajita.
Kekana’s strike not only delivered silverware for South Africa but also earned him a place among the competition’s scorers, having found the net for the first time in the final.
His goal joined a lengthy list of one-goal contributors, but it was his timing that proved decisive.
Thabang Mahlangu, Kekana’s teammate and a regular contributor throughout the tournament, ended second in the scoring charts with three goals.
The centre-forward’s impact, including key goals in earlier rounds, was instrumental in helping South Africa progress to the final.
A cluster of players followed with two goals each, including Moroccan duo Yassir Zabiri and Jones El-Abdellaoui, whose attacking flair helped their side reach the final.
The Democratic Republic of Congo also had strong representation in the scorers’ list, with Samuel Ntanda and Noah Makanza each netting twice.
Egypt’s Moamen Sherif, Kenya’s Lawrence Ouma, and Senegalese midfielder Cheikh Tidiane Thiam also ended the competition on two goals apiece, showcasing the diverse attacking talent on display across the continent.
