Sierra Leone has narrowly avoided suspension from FIFA. After initially threatening to suspend the country due to the football crisis within the Sierra Leone Football Federation (SLFA), FIFA has decided to establish an interim management committee. This committee will also be tasked with organizing new elections for SLFA leaders, scheduled for January 2013.
The crisis in the SLFA escalated a few weeks ago when Sierra Leone’s Minister of Sports, Paul Kamara, dissolved the local football body following the resignations of Nahim Khadi and Alie Kargbo, the president and vice-president, respectively. These resignations were attributed to health reasons. However, the decision by FIFA to install an interim committee has not been well-received by most members of the Sierra Leone Football Federation.
