The ongoing tension between Mohamed Kallon and the leadership of the Sierra Leone Football Federation, particularly its president Isha Johansen, has escalated with a recent clash resulting in Kallon’s arrest.
The dispute stems from allegations made by Johansen against Kallon, claiming he attacked her. However, Kallon denies these accusations and asserts that Johansen was the one who assaulted him during a match involving his club, Kallon FC.
Following his arrest, Kallon was held in police custody for nearly seven hours before posting bail of $11,000. His lawyer condemned the situation, arguing that Kallon was the victim and should not have been accused.
The conflict between Kallon and Johansen is not new and is rooted in Kallon’s rejection as a candidate for the Football Federation’s elections. Kallon and several other candidates were disqualified under a residency requirement, leaving Johansen as the sole contender for the position.
This incident reflects broader tensions within Sierra Leonean football and highlights issues of corruption and political influence within the country’s sports institutions.
