Sidney Sam, the Bayer Leverkusen striker, has expressed his willingness to join the Super Eagles of Nigeria, according to Stephen Keshi, the head coach of Nigeria. Keshi revealed that he had a telephone conversation with Sam, who is enthusiastic about the prospect of representing Nigeria.
While Sidney Sam was born in Germany and progressed through the U19, U20, and U21 teams of the German national squad, he has not been capped at the senior level. Consequently, he remains eligible to play for Nigeria, his land of origin. Keshi mentioned that administrative formalities need to be completed before Sam can officially join the Nigerian national team.
With just two months before the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN), the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) faces a race against time to secure valid documents from FIFA to qualify Sidney Sam for the tournament. The process is yet to be completed, and the outcome remains uncertain.
