Shooting Stars sign Nigeria midfielder Olakunle Akala from Kano Pillars

Nigeria midfielder Olakunle Akala has joined Shooting Stars from Kano Pillars, adding a 23-year-old defensive midfielder to the NPFL club’s squad.

Akala has signed a contract with Shooting Stars running until 30 June 2027. The move brings him to a fourth NPFL club after previous spells with Kano Pillars, Akwa United and Nasarawa United.

The midfielder made 38 NPFL appearances during his career and has scored one goal. He played for Kano Pillars after joining them from Akwa United on 20 August 2025, having previously moved to Akwa United from Nasarawa United in September 2024.

Akala began his senior club career with Wikki Tourists before moving to Nasarawa United during the 2023-24 season. His latest switch keeps him in Nigeria’s top flight and represents another change of club within the NPFL.

The right-footed player’s primary role is in defensive midfield, where he has built his record of league appearances. He joins Shooting Stars as the club prepares to use him in the 2026-27 campaign.

Akala’s move from Kano Pillars to Shooting Stars was completed on 31 July 2026.
