A board member of Al Ahly is reportedly opposing the potential appointment of Jose Riveiro as the club’s new head coach.
On Monday, Orlando Pirates confirmed that Riveiro will make his final appearance with the team today when they face Manqoba Mngqithi’s Golden Arrows in a Betway Premiership match at Orlando Stadium.
Al Ahly has been on the lookout for a new manager after parting ways with Swiss coach Marcel Koller following their elimination from the CAF Champions League at the hands of Mamelodi Sundowns in the semi-finals.
As earlier reported by AfricaSoccer.com, Riveiro has already reached an agreement with Al Ahly and is expected to join the team by the end of the week.
However, Eremnews.com has revealed that Al Ahly board member and club legend Hossam Ghaly is opposed to Riveiro’s appointment. Ghaly believes the coach’s style does not align with the team’s requirements.
The report also notes that Ghaly supports the idea of bringing in former Zamalek coach Jose Gomes, who currently manages Saudi Arabian club Al-Fateh.
However, it is understood that Al Ahly president Mahmoud El Khatib has already dismissed Gomes as a candidate for the role.
