Shawn Adewoye: Belgium-Nigeria defender linked with Lommel SK move
Belgium-Nigeria centre-back Shawn Adewoye, currently without a club after leaving Fortuna Sittard this summer, is being linked with a move to Jupiler Pro League side Lommel SK.
The 26-year-old defender became a free agent on 1 July 2026 following the end of his spell at Fortuna, and Lommel are understood to be exploring a deal as they look to reinforce their back line ahead of the new campaign. Adewoye is valued at around €900,000, and any agreement would be expected to come as a free transfer given his current status.
Born in Bree and standing at 1.85m, Adewoye has built his senior career primarily in the Netherlands and is viewed as a player with significant Eredivisie experience. Across his time with RKC Waalwijk and Fortuna Sittard, he has made 139 league appearances in the Dutch top flight, contributing three goals and one assist and accumulating more than 10,000 minutes of game time.
Adewoye first broke through at Genk after progressing from the club’s youth and under-21 sides, before switching to RKC Waalwijk in January 2021 and then joining Fortuna Sittard on a free transfer in July 2024. His time in the Netherlands also included outings in domestic cup competition and at youth level in Europe, featuring in the UEFA Youth League earlier in his career.
With no contract currently in place, Adewoye is free to negotiate immediately, and Lommel’s interest comes at a time when the defender is seeking the next step in his career after five consecutive seasons of regular Eredivisie football.
