Séwé Sport Still Reeling from CAF Cup Final Loss, Fall to Asec Mimosas
The painful memory of their last-minute defeat in the CAF Confederation Cup final to Egypt’s Al-Ahly continues to haunt Séwé Sport de San Pedro. The Ivorian champions suffered yet another blow, losing 1-0 to Asec Mimosas in a rescheduled match from the second round of the Ivorian Ligue 1.
The only goal of the match came in the 79th minute, as Marc Sekyere calmly converted a penalty for Asec. Despite seven minutes of stoppage time, Séwé Sport failed to mount a comeback.
This marks Séwé’s second loss in just three league matches, having earned only one point so far. The defeat underscores the mental and physical toll of their heart-wrenching loss in Cairo, where they conceded a decisive goal in the dying moments of the Confederation Cup final.
Coach Gervais Rigo now faces the challenge of lifting a demoralized squad as the team slides dangerously close to the bottom of the table.
