The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has revealed the nominees for the men’s categories of the 2024 CAF Awards, with seven Moroccan candidates making the shortlist. The prestigious awards ceremony, set to take place on December 16, 2024, in Marrakech, will recognize outstanding achievements in African football over the past year.
CAF has shortlisted ten candidates in each of the seven categories, which include African Player of the Year, Interclub Player of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, Coach of the Year, National Team of the Year, Club of the Year, and CAF Young Player of the Year.
The nominees were selected based on performances between January 2024 and October 2024.
In the highly coveted African Player of the Year category, Morocco is represented by Paris Saint-Germain’s Achraf Hakimi and Soufiane Rahimi of UAE’s Al Ain.
Both players have enjoyed strong campaigns and are in the running for the prestigious title, which is awarded to the best male footballer on the continent.
Moroccan goalkeeper Mounir Kajoui, currently playing for Renaissance Berkane, has also earned a nomination.
He will compete for the African Goalkeeper of the Year award, recognizing his contributions between the posts for both club and country.
The Moroccan national football team, which has continued to build on its success, is nominated for National Team of the Year.
The Atlas Lions’ consistent performances on the international stage have positioned them as strong contenders in this category.
In the CAF Young Player of the Year category, two rising Moroccan talents are in the spotlight: Bilal El Khannouss of Leicester City and Eliesse Ben Seghir, who plays for AS Monaco.
Both players have shown great promise and will be hoping to take home the award that celebrates the brightest young talents in African football.
Renaissance Berkane, one of Morocco’s premier clubs, is also in contention for African Club of the Year.
The club’s achievements over the past year, both domestically and in continental competitions, have earned them a place among the elite clubs nominated for the award.
Marrakech, which hosted the CAF Awards last year, will once again be the venue for this year’s ceremony.
The CAF Awards 2024 will celebrate the best in African football and bring together top players, coaches, and teams from across the continent.
The awards ceremony will be a night of recognition and celebration, with Morocco well-represented in several key categories. As the date approaches, excitement builds around which players and teams will emerge victorious in these prestigious honors.
