The International Olympic Committee says seven countries are competing to host the 2036 Olympic Games.
Qatar, Germany, Hungary, Turkey, South Africa, South Korea and India are holding initial discussions with the IOC about staging the event, according to the organisation.
A shortlist of candidates is expected to be drawn up in March next, with the final decision on the host scheduled to be made in mid-2029.
Other countries can still submit bids to host the Olympics before the end of October. However, several reports suggest that no new candidates are likely to enter the race.
Los Angeles will host the 2028 Olympic Games, while Brisbane will stage the following edition in 2032.
