Serhou Guirassy returns to Dortmund training after injury layoff
Borussia Dortmund have welcomed Serhou Guirassy back into team training after his recent spell on the sidelines.
Head coach Niko Kovac delivered the update at his press conference before BVB’s home game against SC Freiburg. It is a timely boost for Dortmund as they look to finish the season strongly in front of their own fans.
Kovac first looked back at the origins of the setback, explaining the nature of the injury. “Serhou suffered a concussion after the Hoffenheim game,” the coach said on Friday, putting the events of the past few days into perspective. He then reported some positive news: “He trained with the team again for the first time.”
The schedule now plays into Guirassy’s hands. Because Dortmund do not face Freiburg until Sunday, the striker has a little more time to shake off any remaining after-effects of the concussion and build up rhythm in training. The club will use the remaining sessions to carefully monitor how he responds to the increased workload before making a final call on his exact role in the matchday squad.
From a sporting perspective, having Guirassy back as an option, even if initially only for limited minutes, strengthens Dortmund’s attacking depth for the crucial home fixture.
