Borussia Dortmund took a gamble signing Serhou Guirassy in the summer of 2024, despite medical concerns over a pre-existing injury.
That gamble has paid off handsomely, with the Guinean striker delivering 24 goals and four assists in 33 matches.
His impact has been undeniable, making him Dortmund’s most valuable attacking threat. However, concerns over his fitness are mounting, and a potential injury could deal a massive blow to BVB’s ambitions.
German outlet BILD reports that the club is increasingly worried about the strain on Guirassy, as losing him would leave Dortmund dangerously short of firepower.
Speaking ahead of the clash with Bochum, Niko Kovac emphasized the striker’s importance: “Serhou Guirassy is a very important player, our life insurance. He is treated in such a way that he plays as often as possible, but I would also like to protect him more. But we only have a shock striker, so he often has to go.”
Adding to the challenge, Guirassy is currently observing Ramadan, which can impact his energy levels. Despite this, the club remains hopeful that he can continue delivering when it matters most.
