Borussia Dortmund’s season has been far from smooth, with struggles in the Bundesliga raising concerns about missing out on next year’s Champions League.
A recent defeat to Augsburg on matchday 25 only intensified the pressure.
Now, all focus shifts to Wednesday’s crucial Champions League Round of 16 clash against Lille a match that carries extra significance for Dortmund’s main striker, Serhou Guirassy. Having once played for Lille, the forward is eager for the challenge.
“It is of course a special feeling, even if it was nine or ten years ago that I played here. I’m still happy!” Guirassy shared at the pre-match press conference.
Beyond personal connections, Dortmund must rise to the occasion. Questions about the team’s morale have been swirling, but Guirassy remains optimistic.
“We have to accept the criticism, that is part of it. In the end, we have to learn from it and come back to the positive. Basically, the mood is good, but everyone has to involve themselves,” he emphasized.
With a defining European night ahead, Dortmund will look to Guirassy’s leadership and firepower to turn their fortunes around.
