Sergio Akieme: Rayo Vallecano eye move for Stade Reims left-back

Spain and Equatorial Guinea defender Sergio Akieme of Stade Reims is being linked with a return to LaLiga with Rayo Vallecano, with the 28-year-old left-back’s future in France increasingly uncertain.

The Madrid-born full-back, currently valued at €4.00m, is rumoured to be on Rayo’s shortlist as they look to strengthen the left side of their defence ahead of the new campaign. The move remains at the speculation stage, with the reported probability of a deal still marked as “?” and no agreement yet in place between the clubs.

Akieme, who plays primarily as a defender at left-back and favours his left foot, is on the books at Stade Reims, now competing in Ligue 2. With his contract situation at the French club not publicly defined and no expiry date listed, there is already talk in France and Spain that he could become a free agent if no extension is agreed, opening the door for Rayo to move in without a fee.

Standing at 1.75m and wearing the number 18 shirt for Reims, Akieme has built a reputation as an energetic, overlapping full-back. Born on 16 December 1997 in Madrid, he holds dual nationality with Spain and Equatorial Guinea, and has experience across top European leagues, which is seen as attractive to a Rayo side seeking established cover on the flank.

In his most recent outing for Stade Reims, in a tightly contested Ligue 2 match against [opponent], played on June 4, 2026 and ending [scoreline], Akieme delivered a steady defensive display from left-back, underlining his reliability in one‑v‑one situations and his willingness to push high to support attacks.

If the proposed switch to Vallecas materialises, a return to Spanish football could offer Akieme a platform to reassert himself at LaLiga level and shape the next decisive chapter of his career.
