Serge Nyuiadzi Eyes Togo Call-Up After Stellar Season with Zalgiris Vilnius
After clinching back-to-back league titles with Lithuanian giants Zalgiris Vilnius, forward Serge Nyuiadzi has set his sights on a new goal—representing Togo at the international level.
Born in Togo but raised in France from the age of 10, Nyuiadzi previously represented France at youth level. Now 22, the striker says his heart is firmly set on donning the colours of his birth nation, the Togo Hawks.
“Having the opportunity to defend the colours of your country is not something everyone gets,” Nyuiadzi told FootAfrica365 in an exclusive interview. “It would be an honour to have that chance.”
Nyuiadzi has made no secret of his desire to join the national side, reiterating his commitment to the cause. “It’s up to me to continue my momentum. If I keep working hard, it could happen.”
The Zalgiris forward is currently under contract with the Lithuanian champions until December 2015. He has every reason to be optimistic: with 9 goals and 11 assists this season, Nyuiadzi has been a vital part of his club’s domestic success. “It’s been a good season,” he said. “I played almost every game and was decisive in quite a few of them. That’s important when you play as a striker. But I know I can do even better.”
While waiting for a potential call-up, Nyuiadzi remains an attentive follower of Togo’s national team. “They started badly in the CAN 2015 qualifiers with two defeats,” he noted. “But they bounced back well in the next two matches. Their fate is now in their hands, and that’s a good thing. If they keep the momentum, qualification should be within reach. I hope so with all my heart.”
Should Nyuiadzi receive the nod from Togo’s national selectors, he would join a side led by the iconic Emmanuel Adebayor and brimming with ambition to reclaim its place among Africa’s elite.
As he continues to impress in Eastern Europe, the forward’s determination, form, and patriotism could soon see him earn his long-awaited debut for the Hawks.
