Senegal’s U-17 national team was held to a 0-0 draw by Morocco on Thursday in their second preparatory match for the upcoming U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.
The encounter, played at the Mohamed VI complex, saw the young Lions unable to replicate their dominant 5-0 victory over Zambia earlier in the tournament.
From the outset, Senegal dictated the tempo, pressing high and creating multiple opportunities in the first half.
Cheikhouna Sane and his teammates had several chances to break the deadlock, but Morocco’s defence remained resolute.
Despite being under sustained pressure, the hosts managed to carve out a few attacking opportunities of their own, though neither side could find the back of the net before halftime.
Morocco responds, but goals remain elusive
The second half saw a shift in momentum, with Morocco growing into the game and applying pressure on the Senegalese defence.
Both teams created openings, but wastefulness in front of goal ultimately kept the scoreline unchanged.
The match ended in a stalemate, leaving both teams to take positives from their defensive solidity but frustrated by their lack of finishing precision.
Meanwhile, in the other fixture of the evening, Egypt secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Zambia.
In the tournament standings, Senegal remains in first place with four points, level with Egypt but ahead on goal difference.
Morocco sits in third place with two points following consecutive draws, while Zambia remains at the bottom without a point.
Senegal will face Egypt in their final match on Saturday, a crucial encounter that could determine the group leader ahead of the U-17 AFCON, set to take place from March 30 to April 19, 2025.
