Senegal legend El Hadji Ousseynou Diouf says his outfit second Africa Cup of Nations title is within reach as the team gear up for the upcoming 2025 continental showpiece in Morocco.

The Taranga Lions secured their first African Cup title in 2021, defeating record holders, Egypt on penalties following a 0–0 draw after extra time.

Senegal, who are seeking for their second AFCON laurel are pitted in Group D alongside Benin, Botswana and DR Congo ahead of the continental showpiece to be staged in the North African country between December 2025 and January 2026.

The former two-time African Footballer of the Year winner, who currently serve as a member of Senegal’s coaching staff, addressing young players at the traditional initiation ceremony for the new Lions, emphasized the Taranga Lions’ second AFCON success is within reach.

His comment stem from the integration of young duo Ibrahim Mbaye and Mamadou Sarr into the senior team ahead of their friendly against Brazil.

“You thrilled us, and I know you can continue to do so. Senegal, Africa, and football fans are counting on you. Senegal’s second Africa Cup of Nations title is within reach. It’s in your grasp, in your minds, and through your intelligence,” Diouf declared.

Senegal will open their Africa Cup of Nations account against Botswana on December 23, 2025 in Morocco.
