Lamine Kamara, the Senegalese national team player, expressed immense joy after being selected as the best player in the 3-0 victory against Gambia on Monday at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium.
This match was part of the opening round of the group stage in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Kamara showcased an outstanding performance, scoring two goals against Gambia, earning him the title of the match’s standout player.
The reigning African champions, Senegal, are participating in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Algeria with the aim of defending their title and making a mark on the continental level.
Speaking after the game, Kamara, who plays for the French club Metz, said regarding his award, “I am delighted with this recognition.
It is the result of the collective effort we all put in, and winning the first match is always good.”
The player, who is 20 years old, continued, “I am pleased after scoring two goals in the match, and now I must remain focused on the remaining games.
Hopefully, I can contribute with more goals in the future.”
Attributing his standout performance in the opening match against Gambia to the support he received from his teammates in the national team, especially the senior players, Kamara stated, “I am thrilled to play with the Senegalese national team alongside senior players like Sadio Mane and others.
These players have helped me to stand out.”
