Crystal Palace visit the Stade de la Meinau on Thursday to face Strasbourg in the fourth round of the UEFA Europa Conference League, and Ismaïla Sarr enters the match with full focus on his club responsibilities.
The Senegal international addressed reporters before the game and stated clearly that Crystal Palace’s season takes priority for now, despite the fast-approaching Africa Cup of Nations.
Palace sit fifth in the Premier League after an impressive run, losing only twice in twelve matches.
Sarr has played a central role in that start, contributing three goals and an assist in ten league appearances.
Sarr made his stance firm when asked about balancing club form with preparations for AFCON.
“Right now, I’m focused on Crystal Palace and I want to contribute as much as possible to the team.
The Africa Cup of Nations isn’t here yet. For me, the best preparation is to perform well for the club,” he said.
The winger also discussed Strasbourg, Palace’s opponent for Thursday’s match.
Strasbourg enjoy a strong opening to their Ligue 1 campaign, and Sarr expects a demanding contest against a side that features his national teammate Mamadou Sarr.
The forward highlighted Strasbourg’s discipline and energy, noting similarities between the two teams.
“They’re a very good team. I watch a lot of Ligue 1 and Strasbourg have started the season strongly.
They like to play and defend, but we also like to play and defend. I expect a very tactical and physical match,” Sarr added.
“We are ready, physically and mentally, and our goal is to go home with a victory.”
Crystal Palace aim to continue their European momentum, while Sarr prepares to play a decisive role both on Thursday and throughout the club’s domestic campaign.
