West Ham defender El Hadji Malick Diouf admitted his frustration after Manchester United rescued a 1-1 draw with a stoppage-time goal at London Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Hammers had looked set to claim all three points thanks to Tomas Soucek’s early strike, created by Diouf, only for Benjamin Sesko to snatch a dramatic equaliser in the 96th minute.
Speaking to whufc.com after the match, Diouf acknowledged the disappointment of conceding so late.
“We are disappointed with the result, because we wanted the three points and they got the goal in the 96th minute,” he said. The defender also praised United’s quality and recent form, noting the challenge of facing a team on a four-game winning streak heading into the fixture.
Despite the setback, Diouf stressed that West Ham’s performance had positives.
“It was really tough, but we had good energy and emotions, and we did well. We have to find consistency because we need more points to stay in the league, and we will keep fighting to do that,” he added.
Diouf, who played a key role in creating Soucek’s opener, also highlighted his personal responsibility in contributing to the team’s attacking play.
“It’s my job to try and win every game, and to try and help us score goals. We have lots of talented players in the team, so it’s up to me to look forward and try to get assists in every game. Thankfully I played a part today, and we’ll all keep working,” he said.
West Ham now look to maintain momentum as they chase vital points in the Premier League, aiming for greater consistency in performances and results.
