Senegalese striker Nicolas Jackson leaves Bayern Munich for AFCON duty
Bayern Munich has announced that Senegalese striker Nicolas Jackson has left the club temporarily to join the Senegal national team for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The club shared that the forward played his final game of 2025 for Bayern before travelling to link up with his country for the continental showpiece.
In a message to fans, the club wished the striker good luck as he heads into the tournament with the Teranga Lions. Jackson now turns his focus from club duties in the Bundesliga to preparations with Senegal, who arrive in Morocco as one of the favourites after recent strong performances on the African stage.
Senegal have been drawn in Group D at AFCON 2025 alongside Botswana, DR Congo and Benin, setting up a competitive path to the knockout stages. Their first match of the tournament will see Senegal face Botswana at the Ibn Batouta Stadium in Tangier, a crucial opener as they look to start strongly in Morocco.
Before his departure, Jackson has contributed steadily to Bayern Munich’s 2025/26 Bundesliga campaign, making 12 league appearances with 3 goals so far. His work rate has also stood out, covering over 54 kilometres, with 143 sprints and 422 intensive runs recorded in the league, underlining the physical presence Bayern will miss while he is on international duty.
